Triphala enhances the entire digestive process

Triphala is primarily known as a mild laxative, but it does much more than this. It is a dipani (encourages the digestive fire) for all 13 agni of the body. The first agni is jathar agni of the stomach, there are five bhutagni in the liver to help individually digest the ether, air, fire, water, and earth, and there are seven dhatu agni in the process of cellular transformation between the rasa (lymph and plasma), rakta (blood), mamsa (muscle), medas (fat), asthi (bone), majjas (bone marrow and nerves) and shukra (reproductive tissues). Triphala helps attune all of these agni to keep the chain of transformation running smoothly.

Triphala is great for improving the intelligence of the colon also. All three of these fruits have a sweet vipak (post digestive effect) which helps to give a mild laxative effect. This helps remove any toxins that may be releasing from the increased intelligence before it is reabsorbed by the colon.

It is also considered to have the prabhava (special quality) of prameha which means it has the power to alleviate diabetes.

Triphala is great for the eyes

The cooling and cleansing qualities of Triphala is great for the eyes. The eyes work closely with the liver, and since Triphala helps to rejuvenate the intelligence of the liver, it also helps the eyes. It is used topically as a decoction to cleanse excess heat and toxins from the eyes.

Triphala enhances the immune system

As mentioned above Triphala helps to enhance all 13 agni. Due to this power it helps to increase Ojas which is correlated to our immune system. Because it contains two main rasayanas; Amalaki and Haritaki, it is also considered a rasayana and is good for rejuvenating all of the tissues of the body and the immune system. So it helps with almost all diseases.

Triphala is one of the best combinations for the health of the skin

Due to its ability to neutralize toxins, taking Triphala helps to clear the skin of inflammation and helps to balance the pH.

Triphala is a powerful combination that can have a wonderful effect on your health, but it is not to be used during pregnancy due to the effect of enhancing downward movement.
